Maple Knoll Village

 Cincinnati, Ohio

ABOUT THE PROJECT

A Café Reimagined for Everyone It Serves.

Maple Knoll's café renovation was designed to do more than refresh a dining space. The project transformed an underutilized area into a genuinely multi-purpose community hub, combining a fast-casual bistro and a self-serve market within a single, flexible footprint. The space functions equally well as a teaching kitchen, employee breakroom, and event pre-function bar, serving residents, staff, and the wider community depending on the time of day.

The project came with a distinctive technical challenge: the absence of gas utilities on site ruled out conventional cooking equipment. The solution was the installation of the first electric Marra Forni hearth oven in the country, made possible through ventless cooking technology that opened up options previously unavailable in the space. The design honors the community's local history through a prominent map display, grounding the modern dining environment in a sense of place that feels both fresh and familiar.

GRAPHICS & BRANDING

Rooted in history. Designed for today.

The branding for Maple Knoll was built to honor local heritage without feeling nostalgic for its own sake. Bistro on the Green leads with a fresh plant leaf accent in its signage, setting an approachable, vibrant tone before guests even step inside. Once in the space, the Matthews Northrup Hand Map of Cincinnati anchors the interior alongside heritage photography, creating a visual connection to the community's history that feels meaningful rather than decorative.

The market carries its own identity through a graphic language rooted in classic market elements, brought together under the Market on Main name. Across both venues, every logo, sign, and branded detail was developed in direct coordination with the interior design palette, ensuring that the branding and the space reinforce each other at every turn. The result is a dining environment where history and contemporary style converge without competing.

INTERIOR DESIGN

Every material chosen with purpose.

The interior refresh at Maple Knoll began with the building's greatest natural asset: its windows. The design palette was built to amplify that natural light, layering white accent tiles, galvanized tin details, and quartz countertops to keep the space bright and open. Deeper wood tones in the millwork and flooring provide warmth and contrast, creating a balance that feels considered rather than sterile.

Color enters the space through the hearth oven tile, accessories, and fabric selections, adding visual interest without overwhelming the palette. The result is a bistro and market that feel genuinely welcoming regardless of the time of day or the reason for the visit, a space designed equally well for a lingering meal, a quick bite, or a community gathering.
